Founded in 1997, the ensemble performs repertoire from a broad spectrum of musical genres. Admired for its coherent sound, rhythmic precision and dynamic performances, Synergy Vocals collaborates with the following groups: Steve Reich & Musicians, Ensemble Modern, Ictus, Asko|Schönberg and the London Sinfonietta. Beyond this, the group has performed all over the world with many other distinguished orchestras and ensembles, such as: the BBC Symphony, Boston Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, The Colin Currie Group, Ensemble intercontemporain, London Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Nexus and New York Philharmonic; it has also collaborated with dance ensembles, including the British Royal Ballet. Synergy Vocals is well-known for its close relationship with Steve Reich; it is also a favorite ensemble of Steven Mackey, Louis Andriessen, as well as the New York composers’ group Bang on a Can. The musicians took part in the world première of Andriessen’s newest video opera La Commedia, performed recently in a concert version at Disney Hall (Los Angeles) and Carnegie Hall (New York), as well as the first British production of Luigi Nono’s monumental Prometeo in London. The group has taken part in educational and community projects at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Princeton University, the Eastman School of Music and Oberlin College, as well as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, both training vocal ensembles, and working with composers on new works featuring singers. Synergy Vocals’ discography includes recordings of Steven Mackey’s Dreamhouse with BMOP and Gil Rose; Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians with Ensemble Modern and Tehillim with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Stefan Asbury, as well as Three Tales with Steve Reich & Musicians and Brad Lubman; Louis Andriessen’s De Staat with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Stefan Asbury; as well as Karl Jenkins’ Imagined Oceans. The musicians also appear on the soundtracks of such films as Tales of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, V for Vendetta and The Secret of Moonacre.
