Piotr Orzechowski - a Polish jazz pianist, he was born in 1990 in Krakow. He now studies at the Krakow Academy of Music. He comes from a family with deep musical traditions. Since childhood he has been interested in jazz – his classical music education was complemented with jazz piano classes. He was noticed as an instrumentalist with an interesting personality, musical imagination and technical skills, but also as a responsible leader and composer of brilliant pieces – which has been confirmed by individual awards at nationwide jazz music festivals, including the1st Individual Award at Krokus Jazz Festival in Jelenia Góra in 2007, or the 1st Individual Award (best instrumentalist) at 2008 Jazz Juniors in Krakow, and the 3rd Price for the Jazz Personality at the Jazz on the Odra River Festival in Wrocław. He has also participated in the final round of Jazz Hoeilaart in Belgium. He received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2008. In 2009, during the Andrzej Wajda Film Festival he received the 1st Prize for To co ulepsza, a film he also scored. In 2011, he received the 1st prize in one of the most prestigious jazz competitions in the world – the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition, thus becoming the first Pole to win the iconic Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival.
