Electric Counterpoint (1987)

The work is comprised of three movements: Fast, Slow and Fast. Arranged in two versions: for electric guitar and tape (utilizing two bass guitars and ten electric guitars), and for electric guitar ensemble. In it, Reich uses, among other techniques, sound sampling and looping. The composition was recorded by Pat Matheny on a disc for Nonesuch, together with the Kronos Quartet’s rendering of Different Trains.
