Double Sextet (2007)

A work for two sextets comprised of flute, clarinet, violin, ’cello, vibraphone and piano, or for sextet with tape. Comprised of three movements (Fast, Slow, Fast) based on structures oscillating around tonalities created from the pitches d, f, a flat and b. All harmonic changes are initiated in the piano and vibraphone parts. The composition was written on commission from the Eight Blackbird sextet, which performed it for the first time at the University of Richmond in 2008. A year later, Reich received a Pulitzer Prize for it.
