Coast (1992-93)

Coast is part of the electronic cycle Hoodoo Zephyr (1992–1993), comprised of seven short compositions inspired by the Western landscapes of the United States. Aside from the coast in the title, the cycle also contains Tundra, Tourist Song and Disappointment Lake. Adams, known for his attachment to traditional scoring, uses synthesizers and samplers here, creating something along the lines of an electronic orchestra with a large color palette and clearly delineated instrumental parts. Coast is distinguished by a lively, flickering pulse and rapid figures in the synthesizer parts.
