« back

He studied composition under Leszek Wisłocki at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. He currently lectures there on producing computer music, among others. Since the beginning of its existence, he has also been involved in the work of the Academy’s Computer Composition Studio. He held grants of the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung des SWR e.V in Freiburg, the Warsaw Autumn Friends’ Foundation, the AUKSO Music Foundation and the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung in Munich. His composition entitled monada for vocals, piano and computer (2003) won the 10th International Rostrum of Electroacoustic Music in Rome in May of 2004. In the same year, he was also honoured with the Wrocław Music Award for the 2003/2004 season. In 2005, along with Agata Zubel (as the ElettroVoce duo), he received a special award at the Gaudeamus International Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam. In 1997, together with Marcin Rupociński, he established the Morphai (Greek for: forms) group, taking up artistic initiatives of an interdisciplinary profile. He also performs as a duo with Agata Zubel (vocal and computer recitals). He is a great advocate for improvised music. He readily cooperates with jazz musicians, as well as other artists whose passions include creating live music. Together with Paweł Hendrich and Sławomir Kupczak, he established the Phonos ek Mechanes group. As a member of the group, he makes a special kind of improvised electronic music, called human electronics, where computers are controlled by acoustic instruments. Cezary Duchnowski is also a creator of film and theatre music.
